The National Association of Law Students has called for an independent investigation into the leakage of today’s law entrance exam.

President of the Association, Hassan Asare in a Facebook post said the leakage is an indictment on the Independent Examination Committee (IEC) as it is becoming a usual thing.

The new development, he said is not isolated from the previous leakages which happened in 2018 and July 2022 and mocks the ability of the IEC to handle legal education.

“I call on the security agencies to immediately investigate with a view to bring persons associated with same to book. This is not the first time this has happened…These occurrences are an indictment on the Independent Examination Committee (IEC) and by extension the General Legal Council (GLC). It evinces their inability to handle legal education, which, unfortunately, they continue to be in charge of,” he said.

Speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, he alleged that the law entrance exam is skewed to favour some applicants and has no transparency.

“This particular exam is not transparent, it is opaque. It is not a fair process and students will unjustly be denied. The structure lends itself to abuse and it does not test on merit, I do not call it examination, it is a selection,” he added.

Hassan Asare believes that “the GLC is picking and choosing instead of applying the whole provision of the law. Therefore, same discretion not to implement part of the law should be extended to cancel the entrance examination.”

In 2018 and July 2022 similar incidence of leakage of exam papers happened and had to be rescheduled.

The Law entrance examination to be written today, Friday, September 23 at 10 am reportedly leaked.

The examination is supervised by the Independent Examination Committee of the General Legal Council.

The paper sighted by MyJoyOnline.com has four questions that candidates will be required to answer.

Subsequently, the General Legal Council after a meeting rescheduled the exam to 1:30 pm today.
